Irene Lorinda Skonard

Irene Skonard, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, October 24, 2000 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 94.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 26, 2000 at 1:30 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Watson, MN with Rev. Larry Olson officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Irene Lorinda Skonard was born on June 22, 1906 in Chippewa County, MN to John J. and Sena (Folkestad) Skonard.  She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  She attended rural schools, Watson schools and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1923.  She was a lifelong resident of Chippewa County, living on her family home farm until moving into Montevideo in the mid 1980's.  She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past two years.  She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, loved cats, and was well known for her cooking and baking.

She is survived by nieces and nephews: Faye Jackson of Brooklyn Park, MN; Gail Schultz, Judy Winge and John Skonard of Montevideo, MN; Laurie Denbrook of Waconia, MN and Melanie Paavola of Hoyt Lakes, MN

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Adolph and Julian Skonard; one sister, Margaret Vadnais; and one niece, Marilyn Peters.
