A. Melvin Thompson was born on March 31, 1916, in Red Lake, MN, to Edwin and  Alena Marie ( Asjelson) Thompson.  He was baptized in Red Lake and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson and then attended country school at District 14 in rural Dawson.
Melvin was united in marriage to Stella Hanson on September 1, 1951, at La Qui Parle Lutheran Church in rural Dawson.  All of their married life was spent on their farm in Maxwell Township.  Farming was Melvin's life.  He loved to be in the fields on his John Deere tractor and  was just getting his seed orders ready for this springs planting.
Melvin died suddenly at the Johnson Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 10, 2000, at the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 9 days.
He is survived by his wife, Stella; brother, E. Arnold Thompson of rural Dawson; sisters: Sylvia Thompson of rural Dawson and Grace Hanson of Madison; sister-in-law, Irene Thompson of rural Dawson; several nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elmer C. Thompson; and sisters: Norma Reinke and Josie Olson.
