Adaline Cora (Olson) Aarhus

Adaline Aarhus, formerly of Montevideo, died on May 30, 2006 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm, MN at the age of 92.  Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6 - 7:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Adaline Cora (Olson) Aarhus was born on July 7, 1913 in Orient, WA to Simon and Carrie (Hilleren) Olson. She was baptized in Dulwich, WA and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church in Chippewa Co., MN.  She graduated from Montevideo High School and took teachers training.  She later earned her B.S. degree at the University of Minnesota - Morris. On May 15, 1937 she was united in marriage to Henry Aarhus at the Big Bend Parsonage. She taught rural schools, in Holloway and taught sixth grade and was elementary principal in Maynard for a number of years before retiring in 1975.  She lived in Montevideo until a couple of years ago when she moved to New Ulm, where she was currently a resident at Ridgeway on German.  She had been a member of Big Bend, West Bank and Zion Lutheran of Appleton and was a long-time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She loved to garden, read, embroider, do crossword puzzles and visit with her friends.

She is survived by four children: Stanley Aarhus and his wife Lynn of Plattsmouth, NE, Arthur Aarhus and his wife Marilyn of Champlin, MN, Anita Thomas of New Ulm, MN and Linda Amundson of Woodbury, MN; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry in 1971; a sister, Caroline Olson; a brother, Harold Olson and a brother Edward in infancy.
