Agnes Amelia (Stromenger) Gilbertson

Agnes Gilbertson, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, November 19, 2006 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 78.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Parish with Fr. Jim Dvorak the Celebrant.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 5 - 7 PM and with a parish prayer service at 6:45 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Parish.

Agnes Amelia (Stromenger) Gilbertson was born on January 3, 1928 in Montevideo, MN to Edward and Elizabeth (Bunn) Stromenger.  She was baptized on January 22, 1928 and confirmed on July 19, 1939 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  She attended Montevideo Schools and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1946.  On May 30, 1948 she was united in marriage to Verdie Gilbertson at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She lived most of her life in Montevideo with the exception of short stays in Willmar and St. Cloud, MN.  She worked as an operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for many years before retiring.  Agnes was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, where she was active in sacrificial giving, cemetery committee, as an office volunteer, in adult choir, active in Diocesan ministry, Guild, as a befriender, was coordinator of Anointing of the Sick program, was involved with the Formation Program, volunteered at Luther Haven and the Developmental Achievement Center and was a Minister of the Homebound.  Agnes was awarded the Bishop’s Medal of Service on May 5, 1991 from the Diocese of New Ulm for her volunteer services. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway and helped deliver Meals on Wheels.  She enjoyed quilting, gardening, sewing, needlework and especially her family and their activities.

She is survived by her husband, Verdie; four children: Gregory Gilbertson and his wife Diana of Ramsey, MN, Kathryn Dammer and her husband Bob of Maple Grove, MN, Kathleen Toov and her husband Allen of Austin, MN and Keith Gilbertson and his wife Mary Kay of Berea, KY; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Evelyn Dawson of Willmar, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers: Alfred and Earl Stromenger; a sister, Clara Sunderland; as well as by a number of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
