Agnes Sandven, formerly of Montevideo and the Big Bend area, died on Sunday, February 16, 2003 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 20, 2003 at 1:00 PM at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. David DeMars officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 4 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Agnes Irene (Eide) Sandven was born on October 16, 1909 in Saskatchewan, Canada to Sverre and Annie (Kanten) Eide. As a small child, the family moved to the Big Bend, MN area. She was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church and attended Milan Schools. On March 30, 1929 she was united in marriage to Arnt Sandven in Chippewa County. They farmed in rural Milan, MN for many years. She lived at Parkview Towers in Montevideo from 1985 - 1998 and has been a resident of the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson since 1998. She was an active member of Big Bend Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aid and circle. She served as a 4H leader and was active in Homemakers. She enjoyed quilting, lefse making, knitting, hardanger, crocheting, gardening and rug making on a loom.
She is survived by three sons: Alden Sandven and his wife Marilyn of Hokah, MN, Robert Sandven of Benson and David Sandven and his wife Andrea of Dawson, MN; three daughters: Janice Penke and her husband El of Quitman, TX, Betty Ansay of Highland Ranch, CO and Shirley Olson and her husband Gary of Victoria, MN; 20 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Olsen of Menomonie, WI; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arnt, in 1992; two grandsons: Aaron Sandven and Jeffrey Kalstrom; one great-granddaughter, Kari Lorenz; and two sisters: Clara Serkland and Lavina Halvorson.
