Alda (Hantho) Ernst

Alda Ernst, of Montevideo and formerly of Milan, died on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 91.  Memorial services will be conduced on Friday, February 16, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Tom Opoien officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery at 10:00 AM.  Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Alda (Hantho) Ernst was born on November 20, 1915 in Hantho Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN to Albert and Louise (Shelstad) Hantho.  She was baptized and confirmed at MN Valley Lutheran, attended Appleton Public Schools and graduated from the Lutheran Normal School in Madison, MN.  She later graduated from the Minneapolis School of Business in 1940.  On October 20, 1951 she was united in marriage to Fred W. Ernst in Maple Plain, MN.  They lived in Richfield and she worked for many years for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co in Minneapolis before retiring and moving to Milan, MN in 1970.  While living in Milan, they wintered in Peoria, Arizona.  She was a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church and a homemakers club.  She enjoyed needlepoint, gardening, sewing, and getting ready for their winter trip.  She also loved to spend time with family and spoil them with gifts. She was an organized, caring, giving, reserved and dignified lady.

She is survived by a sister, Lyla Streed and her husband Warren of Milan, MN; a sister-in-law, Bernice Hantho of Dawson, MN; nieces: Wanda (Gary) Boyer of Fridley, MN and Ann (Tim) Borstad of Dawson, MN; nephews: Leigh (Jennifer) Hantho of Edina, MN, Ron (Nancy) Streed and Mark (Janelle) Streed  of Milan, MN; great-nephews: Andrew (Ann) Streed of Graham, WA, Eric (Lori) Streed of Burnsville, MN, Noah (Jen) Borstad of Denver, CO and Michael Hantho of Edina, MN; great-nieces: Shannon (Corey) Hansen of Woodbury, MN, Kelsey and Bretta Streed of St. Cloud, MN, Halsten Hantho of Minneapolis and Serena Borstad of Dawson, MN; great-great-nieces: Hannah, Sophie and Ava Streed of Burnsville, MN; a step-son, Rev. Duane Ernst and his wife Juanita of Burnsville, MN and their family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred in 1997; a brother Murlyn Hantho; a sister Eunice Hantho; and by a nephew, James Streed.
