Funeral service was at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 28, at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church with Pastor Patricia Johnson Carlson officiating; scripture lessons included Psalm 23, John 14:1-14 and John 12:23-26; family greetings and reflections were given by son, Greg and grandson, Joe; soloist, Loren Femrite sang "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and organist, Karen Donner accompanied the singing of "Amazing Grace", "On Eagle's Wings" and "How Great Thou Art"; honorary casketbearers were grandchildren Scott, Emily, Joseph, Kristin, Brian, Cheri, Dustin, Ben, Dave, Tom, Luke, Jim, Jake, Mike, Jordan, Don Jr., Mary, Danielle, Nikole, Cody, and Garrett and the active casketbearers were grandsons Eric, Cori, Rick, Billy Joe, Ryan and Dylan. Interment was in the church cemetery. Alden Dean Bothun was born on October 19, 1934, in Riverside Township of Lac Qui Parle County, the son of Isaac and Helen (Westgaard) Bothun. He was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member of the Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church. After graduating from Dawson High School in 1952, he began farming and also joined the National Guard, in which he served for 13 years. Alden was united in marriage with Genevieve Peterson on June 5, 1954, at Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson. They were blessed with six sons: Brad, Greg, Kev, Don, Doug, and Steve. During the boys school years, he enjoyed watching them participate in sports and continued watching his grandchildren as they grew. Alden served on the Dawson-Boyd School Board for 19 years. After moving into Dawson in 2005, he stayed active in farming with his son and grandsons, as his health allowed. He also enjoyed having coffee at Lee Motors, picking up and delivering cars, and taking drives in the country. The most important days in Alden's life were those spent with family and friends. Alden passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 5 days. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; six sons: Brad (Martie) Bothun of Pierre, SD, Greg (Tami) Bothun, Kevin (Monica) Bothun, Don (LuAnn) Bothun, Doug (Debbie) Bothun all of Dawson, and Steve (Lisa) Bothun of Rosemount, MN; twenty-seven grandchildren: Eric (Melissa) Bothun, Scott (Natasha) Bothun, Emily (Robert) Moreno, Cori (Brook) Bothun, Joseph (Tristin) Bothun, Kristin (Paul Daline) Bothun, Brian (Maggie Pehrson) Bothun, Billy Joe (Megan Prestholdt) Bothun, Cheri (Aaron Ziemer) Bothun, Dustin Bothun, Rick (Cori) Bothun, Ben (Chelsie) Bothun, Dave (Courtney) Bothun, Tom (Crystal) Bothun, Luke Bothun, Jim Bothun, Jake Bothun, Mike Bothun, Jordan Bothun, Don Bothun, Jr., Mary Bothun, Danielle (Josh) Lundy, Ryan Bothun, Nikole (Ken Nelson) Bothun, Cody (Ranita Schmitt) Bothun, Dylan Bothun, and Garrett Bothun; fifteen great-grandchildren: Hayley, Brooklyn, Nicklaus, Bailey, Colten, Bentleigh, Parker, Bennett, Ashton, Drake, Dane, Brody, Shay, Mason, and Ava; and one brother, Verdell (Diane) Bothun of New River, AZ; nieces: Deborah (Mario) Avila, Sandra (Jamie) Hansel and Chrissy (Mike) Palmer; and great-nephew, Max Avila and great-niece, Sophie Palmer. Preceding him in death were his parents and great-grandson, Landon Joseph Bothun
