Alene G. (Laumb) Lanning

Montevideo

Alene Lanning, of Montevideo, died on Monday, December 18, 2006 at her home in Homefront in Montevideo at the age of 88.

Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald McKee officiating.  Interment will be in the Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Alene G. Lanning was born on June 7, 1918 in Montevideo, MN to Gefield and Nora “Eva” (Moe) Laumb.  She was baptized on June 30, 1918 at Mandt Lutheran Church and confirmed in April of 1932 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, both by Rev. John Mason.  She attended the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN, graduating in 1935.  She also attended two years of advanced studies at the West Central School of Agriculture.  On December 26, 1940, she was united in marriage to John Lanning at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.  Following her marriage, she lived in Minneapolis and Milbank, SD, before returning to Montevideo in 1956.  She worked in clothing sales at J.C. Penney’s, Ekberg’s and The Hutch in Montevideo before retiring.  She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where she was active in circle, altar guild, ladies choir and was on the funeral committee and funeral co-ordinator for many years.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, ceramics, needlework, playing cards, reading and visiting with family and friends.

She is survived by a daughter, Marsha Ruppe of Benson, MN; a son, Craig (Susan) Lanning of East Grand Forks, MN; six grandchildren: Diana (Dale) Benjaminson, Deb (Gaylon) Odland, Brian (Kathy) Ruppe, Sherry (Dale) Moser, Vance Lanning and Jason (Charity) Lanning; nine great-grandchildren; two half-brothers:  Dennis (Kathy)Laumb of Valley City, ND and Robert (Annamae) Laumb of Tolley, ND; and two half-sisters: Lucille (Ron) Huber and Deloris (Robert) Inman of Berthold, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a son-in-law, Doug Ruppe; and a sister, Jenny in infancy.
