Alfred Tomes Tammen

Alfred Tammen, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, August 17, 2000 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 90.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 21, 2000 at 1:30 PM at Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo with Rev. Norman Aronson officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening and with the family from 7 - 8 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Alfred Tomes Tammen was born on January 6, 1910 in Iriquois Co, IL to Emil and Meta (Johnson) Tammen.  He grew up and attended school in Gillman, IL.  On September 4, 1936 he was united in marriage to Rachel Arends in Watertown, SD.  He lived and farmed in rural Montevideo and Maynard before retiring and moving into Montevideo about 20 years ago.  He enjoyed farming, gardening and growing roses, movies and bird watching.  He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City.

He is survived by children - Sharon Emkes and her husband Harlis of Montevideo; Shirley Anderson and her husband Wayne of Dawson, MN;  Dodi Sletten and her husband Jim of Maple Grove, MN; and Mark Tammen and his wife Kathy of Maynard, MN; a daughter-in-law - Bernell Tammen of Marshall, MN; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and brothers - Marion “Gus” Tammen and his wife Doris of Spicer, MN and Clarence Tammen and his wife Irene of Maynard, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rachel in 1987, by a son - Ronald in 1994, and by a grandson - Thomas Anderson.
