Alfred "Ron" Kamla

Ron Kamla, of Montevideo, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at the Chippewa County -Montevideo Hospital at the age of 88.

Memorial Services will be conducted on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Don McKee  officiating and burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Alfred Ronald Kamla was born November 24, 1915 in Moorhead, MN to Peter and Ida (Moe) Kamla.  He was baptized in 1916 and later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Ron graduated from Montevideo High School in 1933.  He attended one year of post high school in Montevideo and later attended St. Olaf College.  In 1937, Ron began working for the Milwaukee Railroad as a brakeman, was promoted to freight conductor in 1943 and held that job until he retired in 1979.  For 42 years, Ron enjoyed every day he went to work.  During this time he was elected chairman of the grievance committee, a position he held for 30 years.  Ron also was elected vice-chairman of the full general committee with headquarters in Milwaukee and Chicago, holding that position until his retirement.  Ron was united in marriage with Phyllis “Tommy” Waldron on March 26, 1939 in Montevideo.  To this union two children were born: Richard and Joanne Kay.  Baby Joanne died at the age of 11 months.  After retirement, Ron and Tommy relocated to Mission, TX to a mobile home park.  They built a year round home there in 1984.  They moved back to Montevideo in 2000.  Ron enjoyed carpentry work, cars, the lake, his friends and his family.

Ron is survived by his wife, Phyllis and son, Richard of Maplewood, MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one daughter, Joanne.
