Algean Erickson, of Montevideo, died Monday, December 12, 2016 at Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 85.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Algean Clifton Erickson was born in West Bank Township, Swift County on June 18, 1931 to Albert and Claudina (Laumb) Erickson. He was baptized on June 30, 1931 and confirmed on July 29, 1945 at West Bank Lutheran Church He attended grade school in rural Danvers at District 77. He then attended school in Appleton and graduated from Appleton High School in 1949. Following high school he worked on the farm until he entered into the United States Army in 1953. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in May of 1955. Algean was united in marriage to Florence Strand on December 23, 1954 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.
Following his discharge from the Army, Algean went to work in the plumbing business around the Montevideo area. He worked for a short period of time in Granite Falls but most of his plumbing career was spent in Montevideo for Olsen Plumbing and Heating. He was a very dedicated plumber having worked for Olsen’s for 36 years.
Algean was a member of the American Legion and the Montevideo Police Reserves. He was also very active with the Big Bend 4-H Club. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and assisted with funerals. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at Lake Minnewaska. Algean and Florence enjoyed animals, especially their dogs, Suzie and Libby.
Algean is survived by his wife Florence; his brothers, Maurice (Audrey) Erickson of Montevideo, and Glenn (friend Sharon) Erickson of Danvers; nephews; Greg (Michelle) Erickson and Jeffrey (Kriste) Erickson; niece, Kimberly (Kevin) Voorhees; sisters-in-law: Kathleen Strand and Janet Eisenlohr; brother-in-law, Donald Strand; in-law nieces and nephews, cousins in Norway as well as other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Charlotte, in infancy; niece, Debra Jean; sisters -in-law, Gail Erickson, Glorraine Erickson, Ethel (Harold) Eisenlohr; and brothers-in-law: Herb Eisenbohr, Kenneth Strand, Howard Strand and Gordon Strand.
