Alice Margaret Weflen was born on January 2, 1912 in Renville Co., MN to Peder and Anna (Eliason) Weflen. She was baptized and confirmed at Granite Falls Lutheran Church and attended rural schools. In 1934 she was united in marriage to Alfred Bangsund. They farmed for a short time near Hanley Falls before purchasing the family farm in Lisbon Township south of Montevideo. They moved into Montevideo in 1960 and Alice moved to Copper Glen in 2009. Alice's farm days were devoted to her five children and their activities. Meals of homegrown fruits and vegetables and fresh baked goods seemed to effortlessly appear meal after meal. After leaving the farm, she worked in food service at Ramsey Elementary School. Following her retirement she enjoyed needle arts of all kinds, especially hand stitching the many quilts she made. She found special joy in making quilts for Church World Service with her Bergen friends. Alice regularly welcomed friends and family to her home for coffee and "a little lunch". Alice is survived by five children: Donald Bangsund(and special friend Marilyn Bergh) of Alexandria, MN; Ann (and Paul) Grussing of Brainerd, MN; John (and Frances) Bangsund of The Dalles, OR; Karen (and John) Meslow of Mendota Heights, MN and Galen (and Judith) Bangsund of Roswell, GA; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Stuber of Edina, MN; a brother, Paul Weflen of Mulberry, IN; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
