Alice Johnson, formerly of Montevideo, Died on Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Ruth Home in Hastings, MN at the age of 93. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, Hastings, MN with Rev. Ed Frederick officiating. Graveside services and Interment will take place in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo, on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Tim Wheatley officiating. Alice (Svea) Johnson was born on March 14, 1915 in Swenoda Township, near Benson, MN to Albert and Gina (Haugen) Svea. She attended rural Swenoda township schools. On August 18, 1936 she was united in marriage to Ernest B. Johnson in Benson, Minnesota. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, interior decorating and making craft items. In her early years, she was active in the Ladies Aide groups of Mandt and Jevnaker Lutheran Churches of rural Montevideo. After their retirement from farming north of Montevideo, Alice and Ernie moved into town. They enjoyed remodeling their homes and spent many evenings playing Bingo with their friends. Survivors include two sons; Arnold (Diane Bode) Johnson of Lakeville, MN and Dennis (Juliet) Johnson of Hastings, MN; a daughter Sherry (Francis) Larson of Negaunee, MI; eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter; a brother Chester (Arlene) Svea of Benson, MN along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernest in 1999; her daughter-in-law Janice Johnson;two sisters: Myrtle Peterson and Laura Nordby; two brothers: Arthur and Clarence Svea and three infant siblings.
