Alice E. (Eichhorst) Lanes

Alice Lanes, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 94.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 1:30 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 4 - 6 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Alice E. (Eichhorst) Lanes was born on March 14, 1913 in Downers Grove, IL to Louis and Mary (Hogrefe) Eichhorst.  She was baptized on April 13, 1913 at Evangelic Lutheran Church in Lace, IL.  She moved with her family to Montevideo, MN in 1919 and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church on March 28, 1926.  She attended school in District 18 and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1931.  Alice worked for the Montevideo Creamery and Arneson Drug in Montevideo before moving to the Chicago, IL area.  On May 14, 1943 she was united in marriage to Arthur R. Lanes in Melrose Park, IL.  They lived in Evanston, IL where she worked for over 30 years at the R. R. Donnelly & Sons Company in Chicago before retiring.  Following retirement they moved to Montevideo in 1976.  She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Martha Circle.  She enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Arizona, watching sports, reading, fishing and being “at the lake”.  She especially enjoyed entertaining and being with her family.  She was currently a resident at the Luther Haven Nursing Home.

She is survived by her husband, Art; a brother, Louis Eichhorst of Spicer, MN; a brother-in-law, W.D. “Buck” Jenneke of Montevideo; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Elsie Jenneke and Louise Swenson;  a brother, Ervin Eichhorst; and a sister-in law, Nora Eichhorst.
