Svendsen was born on August 12, 1915, to John and Mary (Olson) Femrite in Riverside Township, rural Dawson. She was baptized and confirmed at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church and presently was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Following graduating from Dawson High School in 1932, and attending Normal Training in Madison, Alice taught at several one-room country schools around the Dawson area. In 1939, she and Thor Greseth were married. They had three children: Rod, Dick and Beverly. Thor died in 1955, from a farm accident and in 1965, she married William Svendsen. She enjoyed her bookkeeping job at the Farmers Elevator in Dawson until retiring in 1976. Widowed again in 1976, she did a lot of traveling: to Alaska to visit Dick and family and to California to visit Beverly and family. She also visited Norway, Ireland and several other countries. In addition to traveling, she enjoyed embroidery, making rugs and dishtowels, bowling, and most of all, playing cards. She was busy with the Senior Center meal site and was always asking about farming, crops and the weather. Alice moved from her home to the Riverside Manor Apartments and for the last 6 years lived at the Johnson Memorial Home. She is survived by her children: Rod Greseth and special friend, Linda Roder of the Dawson area, Dick (Laurel) Greseth of Petersberg, Alaska, and daughter, Beverly Prosser of Arcata, CA; 6 grandchildren: Stephanie (Johnny) Finke, Jennifer (Brian) Winczewski, Cindi (Ken) Erby, Cheryl Greseth, and Jim Young; 5 great grandchildren: Rebekah, Sarah and Julia Finke, Justin Tremmel and Ricky Anderson; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; two daughters-in-law: Bonnie Greseth and Mary Ann Greseth; brothers: Alfred, George, Manford and Lester Femrite; and sisters: Olive Trelstad, Wilma Nelson, Inez Strom and Mabel Femrite.
