Alma Bangsund died Saturday, October 4, 2003 at home in Alexandria, MN at the age of 65.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at 11:00A.M. at Bergen Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo. Rev Gail Klavetter will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 4-7pm and a prayer service at 7:00pm.
Alma May (Hohn) Bangsund was born May 21, 1938 in Tyler, MN, the daughter of Walter and Elsie (Reynolds) Hohn. She graduated from Lynd High School in 1956. Alma worked at the ASCS office in Clarkfield until 1960. She was united in marriage to Donald Bangsund September 5, 1959 in Minneota, MN. They lived in Clarkfield before moving to Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County in 1960 to start farming. Alma went back to school in the early 1980s to receive training in computers and accounting from Granite Falls Vo-Tech. She worked as a cook in the Montevideo Public Schools from 1983 through 1998. During this period she also worked with the Summer Migrant Program and helped area farmers with annual beet harvest. Upon retirement in 1998, they moved to Lake Louise, in Alexandria, MN. Alma continued to hold several part-time jobs in the area until her death. Alma enjoyed the outdoors, particularly camping, fishing, snowmobiling, and bird watching. Alma also had numerous hobbies, including painting, rosemaling, decopage, macrame, quilting, woodworking, and going to garage sales. She was an excellent cook, and frequently was busy with canning, baking, entertaining, and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church, and was active with Luther League and Ladies Aid.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; three children: Dean Bangsund and special friend Nancy Kertz of Fargo, ND, Kevin Bangsund and his wife Jennifer of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Deborah Anderson and her husband Larry of Montevideo, MN; four grandchildren: Nolan and Larson Matzdorff and Calvin and Megan Anderson; one brother, Walter Paul (Cheryl) Hohn of St. Peter, MN; mother-in law, Alice Bangsund of Montevideo, MN; two sisters in-law; Ann (Paul) Grussing of Pillager, MN and Karen (John) Meslow of Mendota Heights, MN; two brothers in-law; John (Frances) Bangsund of The Dalles, OR and Galen (Judy) Bangsund of Roswell, GA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a stillborn daughter; and Ruth Ann (infant sister).
