Clara City

Alma Eidem, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at the Clara City Care center in Clara City at the age of 92.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Bill Odermann officiating.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Alma Jeanette (Gilbertson) Eidem was born on December 5, 1912 near Boyd, MN in Lac qui Parle Co. to John and Ida (Dahl) Gilbertson. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd.  She attended rural schools and graduated from Boyd High School in 1929. On October 31, 1935 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Oakland, and to this union were born two daughters, Irene & Lorraine.  They lived in Clarkfield and Boyd until moving to Montevideo in 1951. She worked at the First State Bank in Boyd and at KDMA radio in Montevideo.In February of 1954 Lawrence died.  On October 22, 1960 she was united in marriage to Peder C. Eidem of Marietta and moved to Marietta, MN.  In 1969 they moved to Montevideo where she assisted her husband with custodial work for 10 years at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Peder died in 1995.  Alma has been a resident of the Clara City Care Center since last May.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and it’s Esther Circle and the Montevideo Senior Citizens.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and doing volunteer work. She loved the Lord with all her heart, mind and soul, and her first priority was always serving Him. She spent much time in prayer, upholding her loved ones and those she knew in her life who had cares and concerns.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Irene Talaasen and her husband Bart of Woodland Park, CO and Lorraine Fokken and her husband Leonard of Clara City, MN; 5 grandchildren: Loraye Talaasen; Janelle (John) Rogowsky; Rhonda (Brad) Fitzsimmons; Kyle (Heather) Fokken; Romelle (Ross) Anfinson; and 2 great grandchildren: Anne Fitzsimmons and Kasjen Fokken

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, Lawrence Oakland in 1954 and Peder Eidem in 1995, 4 brothers: George, Arnold, Edwin and Harry Gilbertson and 1 sister, Gertie Stevens.
