Alma Olivia (Anderson) Swenson

Alma Ross Swenson, of Montevideo, died on Monday, October 21, 2002 at the Wiener Memorial Home in Marshall, MN at the age of 89.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, October 26, 2002 at 10:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee and Rev. Lois D. Knutson officiating.  Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Alma Olivia (Anderson) Swenson was born on May 16, 1913 in Rosewood Township of Chippewa County, MN to Andrew and Carrie (Ellingson) Anderson.  Following the death of her parents in 1916, she lived with her aunt and uncle, Engebret and Caroline Ellingson until 1927, when she lived with her brother and his wife, Oscar and Ella Anderson.  She was baptized at Brono Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo and attended Montevideo Schools.  On May 28, 1932 she was united in marriage to Adolph Ross at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo and to this union was born a daughter, Arlene.  Following Adolph’s death she was united in marriage to Oscar “Rudy” Swenson on May 2, 1969 in Watertown, SD.  She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was active in circle and Elderberries.  She worked in several stores in Montevideo including Sorenson’s Jewelry Store and enjoyed crocheting, walking and playing cards.  She has been a resident of Weiner Memorial Home for the past 3 months.

She is survived by a daughter, Arlene Ross Hubel of Marshall, MN; three grandchildren: Tracy Larson, Allison Hubel and Peter Hubel; and seven great-grandchildren: Rachel and Renee Larson, Alex, Samantha and Carter Brown, and Lindsey and Noah Hubel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Adolph Ross in 1967 and Rudy Swenson in 1996; three brothers: Andy, George and Oscar Anderson; and one sister, Bertina Gustafson.
