Alphieda Geneva Bloom

September 11, 1912 — January 6, 1998

Alphielde Geneva Bloom was born on September 11, 1912, in Boyd, MN, to Christ I. and Olga (Hawkinson) Belsaas.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd.  She graduated from the Boyd High School.
Alphielde was united in marriage with Elmer C. Bloom on October 14, 1934, at the  Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd.  They lived in Dawson for several years before moving to the family farm south of Dawson in 1943.
After high school, she attended Rogers and Brady Beauty College in Minneapolis.  She pursued her career as a beautician at several beauty shops in the Dawson area.  She opened her beauty shop on the farm in the 1960's.  After they moved into Dawson in 1977, she continued her beauty shop in her home for several years.
Alphielde was active in Homemakers and the Ladies Aide of Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson.  She was very active in her profession and served on the State Board of Cosmetology.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, raising flowers, and traveling.
Alphielde passed away at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson on Tuesday, January 6, 1998, at the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 25 days.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer; sons: Jon (Janice) Bloom of St. Louis Park, MN, and Stuart (Bonnie) Bloom of Brooklyn Park, MN; 5 grandchildren: Rochelle (John) Nelson of New Hope, Stacy Bloom of Washington D.C., Nicole (Rick) Stulz of Farmington, and Jodi Bloom and Bradley Bloom of Brooklyn Park; and three great-grandchildren: Brittany, Caitlin, and Andrew Nelson of New Hope; nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers: Ino, Roy, Omer, Claire, and Juel Belsaas; and sisters: Olga Norma Johnson and Palma Foss.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 9, 1998, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastor's Paul Christopher and Kendall Stelter officiating.  Vocal soloist, Pastor Paul Christopher, sang "Amazing Grace" and "Make Me A Channel of Your Peace."  The congregational sang the hymns of "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" which were accompanied by the organist, Jeanne Peterson.  The active casketbearers were Brad Bloom, Stacy Bloom, Rick Stulz, John Nelson, Jeff Johnson, Gary Nelson, and Roger Ellefson.  Burial was in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Dawson.
