Alta Mae Peterson

July 8, 1929 — April 22, 2013

Alta Peterson, of rural Milan, died on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Clara City Care Center at the age of 83.  Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. at Watson Lutheran Church in Watson with Rev. Larry Olson officiating.  Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening with the family present from 3 - 6 P. M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Alta Mae (Nelson) Peterson was born on July 8, 1929 in Moyer Township of Swift Co., MN to William and Marie (Kohler) Nelson.  She was baptized at home, confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Twp. and attended Holloway Public Schools. On April 2, 1950 she was united in marriage to Donald O. Peterson in San Diego, CA.  They farmed on his home farm until retiring from farming in the mid 1990's.  She moved to Copper Glen in Montevideo in 2008 and to Caring Place in Clara City in 2009. She was currently a member of Watson Lutheran Church, had been a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church and active in the church’s women’s groups.  She had been a member of Pheasant’s Forever, Chippewa Co. Historical Society and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She enjoyed cooking, cake decorating, making elaborate gingerbread houses and Norwegian delicacies.  She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, making banners for church and watching westerns on television.

She is survived by a daughter, Ruth Ann and her husband Jerry Lee of Watson, MN; three grandchildren: Jason Lee and his friend Jessica, his daughter Madison and her children Tristan, Matthew and Abigail  of Milan, MN; Jon (and Erin) Lee and their children Annika and Alexis of Fargo, ND and Donna Mae Lee and Jeremy Hanson and their daughter Jessie of New London, MN; two brothers: Billy Nelson of Holloway, MN and Norman Nelson of Appleton, MN; a sister, Emma Radcliff of Appleton, MN; a sister-in-law, Florence Nelson of Appleton, MN as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald in 2007; brothers: Andrew, Gordon and Raymond Nelson and by sisters, Alice Clark and Minnie Bryant.
