Alta Wik, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Chippewa Co-Montevideo Hospital at the age of 68. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening with the family present from 3 - 5 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Alta Ilene (Lynne) Wik was born on October 8, 1942 in Dawson, MN to Lester and Myrtle (Couet) Lynne. She was baptized on December 6, 1942 and confirmed on May 12, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd, MN. She graduated from Boyd High School in 1960. On July 30, 1960 she was united in marriage to Jim Wik. They lived and farmed in Big Bend Township for many years before moving into Montevideo in 2009. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, active in WELCA and quilting, and was the Treasurer and Secretary of the church. She had also been a 4-H adult leader. Alta enjoyed spending time at the lake with Jim and their friends. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and was very active in following her grandchildren's school activities. She is survived by her husband, Jim; three children: Cindy (and Jon) Kanten of Milan, MN; Julie (and Mike) Swenson of Dawson, MN; and Dave (and Julie) Wik of Monticello, MN; eight grandchildren: Sarah, Tyler and Christian Kanten; Nikki, Kelly and Ryan Swenson and Jordan and Payton Wik; two brothers: Donny Lynne and Roger Lynne, both of Bloomington, MN; a sister, Lois Christenson of Montevideo, MN as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenny Lynne and by a brother-in-law, Gene Christenson.
