Alvina Kleven

Alvina Kleven, of Milan, died on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the Chippewa Co-Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo at the age of 91. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Cathie Rhodes officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5-7 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Alvina Marian ( Thompson) Kleven was born on March 2, 1919 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa Co., MN to Selmer and Cora (Olson) Thompson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Big Bend Lutheran Church. She attended the Stoen Country School and graduated from Appleton High School. She worked at Peoples State Bank of Milan for five years, which is where she met Vernon Kleven. They were united in marriage on June 3, 1948 at Big Bend Lutheran Church. She was a bookkeeper for Kleven Brother's Construction for several years, but was a stay at home mom for most of her fifty years of marriage. She raised her three children and enjoyed making all kinds of goodies for her family and her children's friends. She was a member of the Milan Methodist Church and was church treasurer until the church closed and she became a member of the Kviteseid Lutheran Church. She belonged to the Milan Legion Auxiliary. Her passion was playing bridge and did so until the time of her death. She was well known as the "Lefse Lady" and sold lefse to people from all over. She loved to make quilts and had given several away to family and friends over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her three children: Dale Kleven of Alexandria, MN; Judy (and Larry) Nore of Kenmare ND, and Gary (and Deb) Kleven of Milan; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon in 1999, and by two brothers, Floyd and Leonard Thompson.
