January 18, 1926 — April 19, 2015

Anna (Anne) Warnke died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Shirley Chapman Sholom Home East in St. Paul, MN.  She was 89.

Anna was born on January 18, 1926 to Harvey and Anna (Janousek) Mahrt in Gregory, SD.  In 1948 she graduated from St. Catherine's University, their first music major.  Her minor was in secondary education and student teaching took her to Wood Lake, MN where she met her husband Al Warnke.  Returning to Custer, SD in her beloved Black Hills they were united in marriage on November 16, 1950.

Anna, like all of us, played many roles in her lifetime and two of her favorites were mother and teacher.  A violinist, she taught string instruments, first in the public schools and later at Encore, her own music studio where she taught the Suzuki method. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Montevideo, enjoyed cultural events and loved to play bridge.

She is survived by her six children: Linda (Thomas) Harlander, Margaret (David) Schneider, Mary Warnke, John (Krista Rothmaler) Warnke, James (Jolene) Warnke and Annie Varney; 7 grandchildren: John, Stephen, Gabe, Mason, Tessa, Elizabeth and Thomas and two brothers: Don (Rosemary) Mahrt and Marty (Colleen) Mahrt.

Preceding her in death were her husband Al and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be sent to Second Harvest Heartland.
