Annabelle Genevieve (Saterlie) Haga

Annabelle Haga, of Montevideo, died on Friday, September 24, 2004 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 99.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Kurt Hoover officiating.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Annabelle Genevieve (Saterlie) Haga was born on October 21, 1904 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa County, MN to Lars and Emelia (Alstad) Saterlie.  She was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church. She graduated from Montevideo High School and attended Winona State College and later St. Cloud State College. On April 16, 1930 she was united in marriage to Orton Haga at the Haga family home in rural Granite Falls, MN. They lived on the farm until moving into Montevideo in the early 1940's, where she has resided since.  She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home since 1998.  Annabelle was a schoolteacher and her teaching career spanned from 1926 until her retirement in 1970.  She taught in a number of Chippewa County schools including the Wegdahl, Erickson, and Baxter Schools as well as in Districts 5, 64 and 33. She also taught for several years in Hazel Run and Hanley Falls. Her absolute love of teaching children is a fact she articulated often and is remembered with pride by her family. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was active in WELCA and Altar Guild.  She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Education Association, Senior Citizens, Chippewa Co. Historical Society and AARP.  She enjoyed poetry, travel, volunteering at Luther Haven and for Meals on Wheels and was an avid Twins Fan.

She is survived by four children: Louis Haga of Portland, OR, Elizabeth Loew of Ridgewood, NJ, Katherine Haga of Montevideo and Kenneth Haga and his wife Valerie of Prior Lake, MN; six grandchildren: Christian (Michelle) Loew, Joseph (Linda) Haga, John Loew, Jonathan Haga, Andrew Haga, and Anthony Haga; two step-granchildren: Taylor Orr and Andrew Orr; and three great-grandchildren: Kiera Erickson, Michael Loew, and Nicholas Loew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orton in 1973; one son, John; five brothers: Selmer, Clarence (Kelly), Ernest, Mason and Urban Saterlie;  three sisters: Luella Saterlie, Minda Saterlie and Esther Powers; one son-in-law, Fred Loew; and one daughter-in-law, Karon Mortenson Haga.
