Annie Thorsen, of Milan, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the Chippewa Co- Montevideo Hospital at the age of 96.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 16, 2002 at 10:30 AM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Wayne Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening, with the family from 5 - 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Annie Jevoila (Olson) Thorsen was born on June 19, 1905 in Kragero Twp. of Chippewa Co., MN to James and Hannah (Volden) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and grew up in the Milan, MN area. She attended Milan Schools and graduated from Milan High School in 1922. She completed studies at St. Cloud Teachers College and taught country schools in the Milan area for 3 years. In July of 1928 she was united in marriage to Oliver Thorsen at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. They lived in York, ND, Duluth, MN and St. Cloud, MN before moving to Brainerd, MN in 1941. She worked as a waitress at the Land O Lakes Café and along with her husband operated the Log Cabin Café in Brainerd during the early 1950's. Following her husband’s death in 1968, she worked as a Dietician at the State Hospital in Brainerd before retiring in 1975. She moved back to Milan in 1979. She was a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church and it’s WELCA group in Milan, the Milan Sr. Citizens and enjoyed reading, keeping up on current events, was an avid Twins and Vikings fan and enjoyed handiwork, quilting and embroidering.
She is survived by a son, Howard Thorsen and his wife Marlyn of Alexandria, VA; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Thorsen of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; 6 grandchildren: Tracey Thorsen of Bernardsville, NJ; Sue Tingley of Whitehouse Station, NJ; Elaine Thorsen of Centre Harbor, NH; David Thorsen of Boca Raton, FL; Ellen Thorsen of Frankfort, KY; and Kathy Cunningham of Sandy Hook, CT; 6 great grandchildren: Scott; Ashley; Linda, Makena, Erin and Kevin; sisters: Ruth Kleven of Milan, MN and Ella Gandel of Indianapolis, IN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oliver in 1968;her eldest son, Thomas in 1999; brothers: Alvin, Ole and Henry Olson; sisters: Jurgina Landvik and Clara Lea and 2 infant brothers.
