Archie D. Nordby

May 27, 1920 — June 25, 1994

Archie D. Nordby, of Montevideo, died on Saturday June 25 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 74.  Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday June 28 at 11:00 A.M. at St . Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Richard Hamlow officiating.  Burial will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Montevideo.  Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening and with the family from 7 - 8 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Archie Donald Nordby was born on May 27, 1920 in Chippewa Co., Minnesota to Oscar & Tilda Nordby.  He was baptized at Granite Falls Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, Mn. and confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Fairmont,Mn.  He attended Montevideo High School.  On November 15, 1942 he was united in marriage to Norma Weckwerth at the St. Johns Lutheran Church parsonage near Montevideo.  He served in he US Army from 1942 - 1945 during World War II and was called into active service during the Korean Conflict in 1951.  He worked for the city of Montevideo for several years beginning in 1946, worked for Olsen Plumbing of Montevideo for several years, and again worked for the City of Montevideo until 1958, when he moved to Fairmont, Mn. to own and operate Nordby Transfer, Inc.  He retired in 1975 and moved back to Montevideo in 1981. He was currently a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.  He had been a member of the Fairmont Kiwanis Club; active in the Chamber of Commerce; a member of the American Legion and V.F.W.; was an active member of the National Guard in Montevideo and was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife - Norma; by a son - David of Minneapolis; by daughters - Jean Nordby and Karen Nordby and her husband Jim Overheul of Minneapolis; 1 granddaughter; a sister - Phyllis (George) Saue of Montevideo ; by a brother - Harold (Florine) Nordby of Montevideo; as well as by a niece and 2 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother - Robert Nordby.
