Ardella Sumner, of rural Boyd, died Monday afternoon, October 15, 2012, at the Clara City Care Center in Clara City, MN, at the age of 88.

Visitation  Thursday, October 18, from 5-7 PM at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.

Funeral service 2:00 PM, Friday, October 19, at the First Presbyterian Church in  Dawson with Pastor Herbert Rotunda officiating; Dean and Pam Lehmann sang “One Day At A Time” and “Softly and Tenderly” and organist, Florence Gebur accompanied the congregation in singing “Lift High the Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.”  DuWayne Miller, Randy Cox, Wayne Admire, Daryl Miller and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honorary casketbearers and the active were Byron Grinager, Sidney Johnson, Gene Stengel, Daniel Sumner, Keith Sumner and Timothy Sumner.  Interment was in Terrace Lawn Memory Garden Cemetery in rural Montevideo.

Ardella Marcella Sumner was born October 1, 1924, in Sioux Valley, MN, to Albert J. and Mathilda (Bisping) Miller.  She was baptized in the German Lutheran Church in Lakefield, MN, and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Church in Madison, MN.  She moved with her parents to Hamlin Township, rural Dawson on March 1, 1939.  She finished school in Hamlin Consolidated School in 1939.

Ardella and Glenn Sumner were united in marriage on July 29, 1945 at the Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson, now Grace Lutheran.  They resided on the family farm in Maxwell Township, rural Boyd.  Six children were born to this union.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dawson and its Ladies Aide.  She was also a member of the Strand-Saboe VFW Post #5247 Auxiliary, the Sunrisers band, and the Stitch and Stir homemakers club.

Ardella died Monday afternoon, October 15, 2012, at the Clara City Care Center in Clara City at the age of 88.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn of rural Boyd; children: Bonnie (Erwin) Hansmann of Dixon, MO, Dale (Barbara) Sumner of Portland, OR, Weldon (Sandy) Sumner of Rolfe, IA, Katherine (Steve) Haakenson of Eagle Grove, IA, Arlen Sumner of Boyd and Michele (Theodore) Nelson of rural Madison; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and another due in March: Leslie (LaDonna) Hansmann and their children, Auston and Torianna; Amyjune (Terry) McClure and their children, Joshua, Arron and Noel; Scott Sumner and his children, Alexandria and Cody; Krystal (Curtis) Bedwell and their children, Colin and Evan; Douglas Sumner; Lisa (Matthew) Anderson and their son, Colton; Laura (Aaron) Provin and their children, Nichole, MaKayla and Tharon; Melisa Haakenson and her children, Steven and Kristina; Randy Nelson; Amanda (Travis) Paradis with their first child due in March; and Patrick Nelson; three brothers: Vernon (Bea) Miller of Belgrade, MN, Eldon (Cecelia) Miller of Andover, MN, and Floyd (Kit) Miller of Strathmore, CA; one sister, Phyllis Key of Midland, TX; many nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters: Mildred Admire, Emily Cox and Betty Koenen; two brothers: George Miller and one in infancy; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Key and Frank Admire;  sister-in-law, Kathy Miller; and grandson, Troy Haakenson.
