Ardis Coon, of Dawson, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at the age of 83.

Funeral service was Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 10:00 AM, at the Johnson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Herbert Rotunda officiating; Ginger Tollefson accompanied the singing of “Thine Is The Glory”, “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Love Devine,” “All Loves Excelling” and “What Wondrous Love Is This.”  Honorary casketbearers were Amy Nelson, Becky Weinacht, Jamie Halvorson, Ashley Coon, Ashley Weinacht, and Sara Coon and the active were Matt Weinacht, Joe Croatt, Roger Nelson, Stephen Coon, Scott Croatt and Christopher Berendt.  Burial was in the Dawson Cemetery.

Ardis Ramona (McConnell) Coon was born April 11, 1928 at Watertown, SD, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Brovald) McConnell. She attended school and grew to adulthood there. Ardis was united in marriage with Milton Coon April 15, 1950 in Milbank, SD. They lived in Chicago, IL, before moving to Dawson in 1952. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and she enjoyed canning, camping and fishing.

She is survived by six children: Kay Nelson of Missouri, Alen Coon of Dawson, Sherry (Pat) Weinacht of Dell Rapids, SD, Rodney (Wanda) Coon of Dawson, Dawn (Dan) Croatt of Madison, and Glen (Jackie) Coon of Montevideo; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Milton on August 12, 2004; son-in-law, Lester Nelson; grandson, Mark Weinacht; four brothers: James, Owen, Stanley, and Paul McConnell; and one sister, Lorraine Muston.
