Ardith Westgaard died Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson at the age of 74.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. Rev. Kendall Stelter will officiate and interment will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before the funeral.
Ardith Eunice (Smaagaard) Westgaard was born December 11, 1944 at Dawson, MN the daughter of Benroy and Solveig (Wenskaug) Smaagaard. She was baptized and confirmed at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church. She attended District #12 until the eighth grade and graduated from Dawson High School in 1962. Ardith worked at Red Owl in Dawson after high school. She was united in marriage with Dennis Westgaard May 2, 1964, at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church. They lived in Dawson, Clinton, Alexandria and Delano before returning to Dawson in 1976. She worked at Dawson Knitting, was a playground supervisor at the Dawson Elementary School and then in the dietary department at Johnson Memorial Nursing Home from 1985 until she retired in 2016. She enjoyed traviling to Florida with family and the trips she took to Nova Scotia and Mackinac Island with friends. Coffee with her Tuesday morning birthday club was always very special and something she looked forward to. She was a generous mother, mother-in-law and grandmother who loved being with her family. She was so proud of her girls and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by two daughters: Desrae (Dale) Kemen and Bobbi (Scott) Schacherer all of Dawson; four grandchildren: Alyssa (fiancee Tyler Erickson), Brock and Sadie Kemen and Holland Schacherer; two brothers: Stanton (Sandy) Smaagaard of Dawson and Brad (Joann) Smaagaard of Naples, FL; and a sister, Lolly (Bob) Ehlenz of Richmond, MN, nieces, nephew and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband Dennis December 14, 2018.
