Arlene Poppe

Arlene Poppe of Montevideo died on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at CCM Health in Montevideo at the age of 96.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 5-7 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Arlene Judith Poppe was born in Big Bend Township on September 11, 1922 to Edward and Agnes (Angrimson) Erickson.  She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  She attended Milan High School and graduated in 1941.  Following high school she attended Normal training at Windom College in Montevideo. She taught country school at District 11 north of Montevideo and District 10 south of Montevideo.  She was united in marriage to Lee Warren Poppe at Immanuel Lutheran Church on August 22, 1948.  She started as a Title one teacher at Ramsey in 1967 until 1977 and then continued to substitute teach until retirement in 1986.

Arlene was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  She taught Sunday School for over 30 years, was the chairperson of the WELCA group and sang in the Ladies Choir.  She enjoyed music and was blessed with the gift to sing and play music.  She played the piano, organ, and accordion by ear.  She would also sing for funerals and other special events.  Her other hobbies included making lefse, dancing and listening to the radio.  Her family will always remember her love for her grandson and great-grandsons and spending time with her family.

Arlene is survived by her son, Greg (LeeAnna) Poppe, Monetvideo; grandson, Lee (Stephanie) Poppe, Wyndmere, ND; three great-grandsons: Klay, Garrett, Quinn; sister, Loretta Lange, Montevideo as well as nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee Warren in April 1996; and siblings: Verna Norby, Ruth Torgerson, Albert Erickson and Leona Frank.
