Arlene Streed

November 9, 1927 — March 16, 2011

Arlene Streed, of rural Milan, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at her home at the age of 83 with her husband of 64 years by her side. Funeral services will be Conducted on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Cathie Rhodes officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Arlene (Olson) Streed was born on November 9, 1927 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa County, MN to Oscar and Helga (Hanson) Olson. She was baptized on Christmas Day, 1927 and confirmed on June 14, 1942 at Big Bend Lutheran Church by Rev. C.T. Jensen. She met Ernest Streed while attending Milan High School, where she graduated from in 1945. On September 21, 1946 she was united in marriage to Ernest Streed at Big Bend Lutheran Church by Rev. C.T. Jensen, and to this union were born eight children. She was a long time member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, where all of her children were baptized and confirmed and where she was a member of the Hannah Circle. Arlene's life's work was as a wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Sewing Club for many years and crafted many needlework projects. She liked having company, always treating visitors to coffee and her wonderful cooking and baking. In addition to cooking and baking, she enjoyed preparing foods by freezing and pickling. Arlene and Ernie liked to travel around to visit family and friends and also to attend their grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities and special events. She enjoyed the family's annual camping event and going to her sister's cabin. Arlene was always ready for a game of buck, bingo or a board game, and was also known to play a penny machine now and then. Arlene was patient and kind. She possessed an amazing quiet strength that saw her through difficult times. The greatest joys in her life were having her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren around her that brought her the most joy in her life. Arlene is survived by her husband Ernie; six sons: Michael Streed of Milan, MN; Dale (and Janet) Streed of Columbia Heights, MN; Darrell (and Naomi) Streed of Milan, MN; Kevin (and Lori) Streed of Burnsville, MN; Douglas (and Ann) Streed of Morris, MN and Timothy Streed of Willmar, MN; one daughter: Emily Rodeberg of Montevideo, MN; a daughter-in-law, Sue Streed of Milan, MN; eighteen grandchildren: Shawn, Brent, Nathan and Ryan Streed; Todd (Tami) Koosman; Benjamin and Thomas Streed; Jeremy and Jesse Streed; Brian (Shannon) and Aaron(Johanna) Hislop; Trent Rodeberg; Jonathan, Megan and Danielle Streed; Jacob (Beki) Jonathan (Toni) and Mitchell Hughes; twelve great grandchildren: Morgan and Mackenzie Streed; Adam and Mitchell Koosman; Makel, Hayden and Xander Hislop; Bode and Courtney Hislop; Jaydon and Jackson Hughes and Brendon Hughes; a sister: Hazel (Vern) Miller; a brother, Dennis (Beatrice) Olson; a sister-in-law, Johanna Cullinan; a brother and sister in law, Ray & Fern Streed; a brother-in-law, Ralph Haugen, as well as by many nieces, nephews and other relatives She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gregory; a son-in-law, Lee Rodeberg; a daughter-in-law, Mary Streed; a great granddaughter, Amelia Hughes; sisters: Martha Blom, Florence Vellekson and Rudell Jahn; brothers: Lauris and Verdie Olson and by sisters-in-law, Florence Streed and Hazel (Streed) Haugen.
