Arline Viola (Syvertsen) Berglund

Arline Berglund, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, January 30, 2000 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 85.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Douglas Olson officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Arline Viola (Syvertsen) Berglund was born on May 3, 1914 in St. Paul, MN to Oscar and Rosalie (Petering) Syvertsen.  She was baptized on June 7, 1914 and confirmed on May 27, 1928 at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Paul.  She attended Washington High School in St. Paul.  On October 5, 1940 she was united in marriage to Arnold Berglund at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Paul.  In 1948 the family moved to Milan, where they purchased and ran the Milan Standard until selling it in 1962. They operated the Berglund Skogmo Clothing Store in Milan from 1962 - 1967.  In 1967 they moved to Montevideo and she has resided here since, spending the last year as a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home.   She worked as a bookkeeper for the Milan Standard when they ran the newspaper and worked as a bookkeeper at Pamida from 1973 until retiring in 1984.   She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was active in it’s circles and women’s groups.

She is survived by one son, Gerald Berglund and his wife Diane of Montevideo; two grandchildren: Angela Peters and her husband Duane of North Mankato, MN and Scott Berglund of Montevideo; two great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and McKenna Peters; two sisters: Doris Pariseau of St. Paul, MN and Maxine Emmons and her husband Joe of St. Paul, MN; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold in 1980; and two brothers: Eldon and Glenn Syvertsen.
