Arlow “Doc” Grant, formerly of the Big Bend and Milan area, died on Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at the Appleton Nursing Home in Appleton at the age of 97.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, January 6, 2003 at 1:30 PM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, MN with Rev. David DeMars officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Arlow Henry Grant was born on October 17, 1905 in Spencer, IA to Adelbert and Amanda (Evans) Grant. He moved to Grace Township in Chippewa County, MN with his family in 1914. He attended rural schools. Arlow was united in marriage with Blanche Dagmar Thompson on January 10, 1930 at Milan, MN. They lived and farmed in the Big Bend area for many years before moving into Milan in 1968. He had been a resident of the Appleton Nursing Home the past two years. He was a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church and was a hard working farmer with a sense of humor.
He is survived by two sons: Arlow Grant and his wife Jane of Big Bend, MN and Robert Grant and his wife Deanna of Milan, MN; one daughter, Mary Schmiesing and her husband Karan of Milan, MN; eleven grandchildren: Heidi Shawd, Jay Randall, Kevin (Mary) Grant, Kathy (Jeff) Westmoreland, Mike Grant, Debra Grant, Rob (Julie) Grant, Ryan (Joan) Grant, Rick Grant, Reid Grant, and Dawn (Brad) Thorstad; eleven great-grandchildren: Sarah, Joseph, David, Amy, Lee, Kelly, Amanda, Matthew, Jaden, Jett, and Nathaniel; A sister, Pauline Ventura of Duluth, MN and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Dagmar Grant last November; one son, Jerome in infancy; three brothers and two sisters.
