Arlyn Shelstad, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 53. The Celebration on Arlyn’s Life will be conducted on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 11: 00 A.M. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Lori Wold officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Boyd, MN. The start of the celebration and visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5-7 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Arlyn Gene Shelstad was born on December 19, 1959 in Graceville, MN to Verlyn and Beatrice (Behrens) Shelstad. He grew up by Artichoke Lake and graduated from Chokio-Alberta High School in 1977. He attended Granite Falls Vo-Tech for auto body repair. On June 14, 1980 he was united in marriage toTeri Doose at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd, MN. He worked for Grain Dryer Services, Pillsbury and for the FSA Office in Chippewa and Yellow Medicine Counties before retiring to full-time farming about six years ago. He was a member of Pheasants Forever and loved to hunt pheasants, deer, bear and had a strong passion for conservation. He enjoyed sports, looking at crops and target shooting.
He is survived by his wife, Teri; his mother, Beatrice Shelstad of Appleton, MN; three sisters: Barb Shelstad (and husband Michael Johnson ) of Minneapolis, MN; Lori (and Jon) Sporer of St. Paul, and Penny Shelstad and her fiance Butch Schmitz of Chokio, MN; a brother, Stuart (and Jackie) Shelstad of Hugo, MN; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Verlyn Shelstad.
