Arnold Styrbicky, of Montevideo, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 78. Memorial services will be conducted on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Tim Ehling officiating. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family present from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Arnold Anthony Styrbicky was born on September 9, 1934 in Rockford, MN to Anthony and Agnes (Esser) Styrbicky. He was baptized in 1934 and confirmed in 1948 in Rockford. He attended school in Maynard, MN. On August 15, 1954 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Bette) Nordby in Montevideo. Following their marriage they lived on the farmsite of Tony and Agnes Styrbicky. In 1956 they moved to Willmar, where he worked for Wonder Bread as a route driver for two years. In 1958 they moved to Montevideo, where he worked at the IGA grocery store, ultimately being promoted to store manager. Arnie fondly recalled being the youngest IGA store manager in the upper Midwest. Arnie worked for Norris-Zaiser Dairy as a milk-route delivery man for businesses. During this time, Arnie and Bette bought the Ramsey Trailer Court, which housed over twenty-five family housing units. In 1970 they moved to Terra Haute, IN, were Arnie was the general manager of the mobile home sales operation. Five years later they moved back to Montevideo, where Arnie farmed until retiring in 1985. During the 1980's Arnie kept busy and won many sales contests selling wood-burning stoves. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pheasants Forever, the Rod & Gun Club, and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and vegetable gardening. Arnie especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Bette); three children and their families: Robert Styrbicky of Pipestone, MN; Lori (and Gary) Meyer of Montevideo, MN and their children: Brandon Cobb (fiancé Beatriz Del Rio), Drew and Preston; and Linda (and James) Hocum of Prinsburg, MN and their children: Adam (fiancé Laura Stone), Jessica (Devin) Hanson and son Chase, Jason, and Katie (Nick) Koenen; a brother, Ken (Linda) Styrbicky of Big Bend, MN; two sisters-in-law: Nancy (Bill) Kashmark of Montevideo, MN and Marcia (Tom) Frazier of Spring Lake Park, MN; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; a sister, Elaine Randt; a sister-in-law, Terry Nordby; and his parents-in-law, Milford and Phyllis Nordby.
