Arnold "Dave" David Mitlyng

Arnold “Dave” Mitlyng, of Montevideo, died Sunday, September 12, 2004 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 87.

Memorial services will be held Friday, September 17, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter.  Rev. Charlie Bunk will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.

Arnold David Mitlyng was born January 8, 1917 in Camp Release Township, Lac Qui Parle County, MN the son of Lars and Marie (Gunderson) Mitlyng.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church and attended school in District #21.  He farmed all of his life on the home place, first with his dad and later with his son Jon.  Dave was united in marriage with Ag Belsaas on October 11, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN.  They made their home on Dave’s home farm place until they built their retirement home.  Ag died in January of 1985.  Dave was united in marriage with Vera (Knutson) Johnson on March 11, 1989.  Vera died December 7, 2003.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling, hunting, fishing, and golfing.  Dave loved his family very much.

He is survived by three children: Jon Mitlyng and his wife Marion of Montevideo, MN, Judy Marshall of Canton, CT, and Beth Gustafson and her husband Paul of Montevideo, MN; nine grandchildren: Matthew (Anita) Mitlyng, David (Tristie) Mitlyng, Douglas (Julie) Maus, Veronica (Christian) Renstrom, Michelle (Scott) Reeves, James Marshall, Jeremy Gustafson, Bryan (April) Gustafson, and Sarah Gustafson; nine great-grandchildren: Alicia, Demie, Andrew, and James Mitlyng, Victoria and Jacqueline Renstrom, Rachel Gustafson, and Ashly and Dylan Maus; two step-daughters: Debra (Charles) Blom and Lou Ann (Terry) Montgomery both of Montevideo, MN and their families; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wives: Ag and Vera; a grandson, Lance Mitlyng; six brothers: Lloyd, Ernest, George, Alfred “Fritz”, Joel, and Spencer Mitlyng; and three sisters: Gunda Carlson, Edna Frick, and Gina Mitlyng.
