Arthur Lien, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 90.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Kurt Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening, with the family from 6-7 PM and with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Arthur N. Lien was born on May 23, 1913 in Lyon Co., MN to Nils and Annetta (Anderson) Lien. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church in Normania Township and attended rural schools. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. On February 7, 1948 he was united in marriage to Lavina Shruth at her home in Pepin, WI. They lived and farmed in rural Montevideo until 1979 when they moved to a home on 7th St. in Montevideo. He had most recently been a resident at Brookside Manor in Montevideo. He was a long-time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, faithfully attending worship services and involved in all aspects of the church. He was involved with Boy Scouts, was Rosewood Township Treasurer and was a lifelong member of the Minnesota Farmers Union, He enjoyed all forms of woodworking, especially furniture repair and cabinet making.
He is survived by his wife Lavina; a son Donald Lien and his wife Beverly of Montevideo; 3 grandchildren: Brendan, Carrie and Kelly Lien; a brother, Norval Lien and his wife Grace of Montevideo; a sister, Alma Sheane and her husband Kenneth of Wellton, AZ; a sister-in-law, Loraine Lien of Montevideo; a brother-in-law, Vernon Kaldor of Hillsboro, ND; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Selmer and James Lien; a sister, Clara Kaldor; a sister in infancy, Clara Eva Lien; a sister-in-law, Emma Lien and brothers-in-law, Maynard Kaldor and Hartford Kompelien.
