Arthur Olson

July 18, 1913 — January 9, 1994

Arthur W. Olson was born on July 18, 1913 in Milan, Mn. to Nels and Jennie Olson.  He was baptized and confirmed at the Milan Methodist Church.  He attended schools and graduated from Milan High School in 1931.  He served in the National Guard's Company M in Appleton, Mn.  On September 26, 1937 he was united in marriage to Ada Shelstad at the Zion Lutheran parsonage in Appleton with Rev. E.S., Belgum officiating.  He farmed for many years in the Milan area before retiring in 1980 and moving to Montevideo  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, growing roses, and playing the organ.  He was a life-long member of the United Methodist Churches in Milan and Montevideo, and served as a Sunday School teacher, a lay leader, and a delegate to the annual conference as a member of the Milan church as well as being a former Gideon.

Arthur died on January 9, 1994 at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Mn. at the age of 80.  He is survived by his wife - Ada; by daughters - Dianne Gjerset of Hoffman, Mn.; Barbara Lillemoe of Austin, Mn.; and Nancy King of Brookings, SD; grandchildren - Kristin and Karin Gjerset; Heather Lillemoe; and Darren King; by sisters - Anna Brooks of Rochester, Mn. and Huldah Strand of Minneapolis, Mn.;a cousin - Rev. Orville Nelson of Georgia and several cousins in Sweden;, by a niece and by 8 nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, by a brother - Roy Olson and by a sister - Edna Bausman.


Services - Thursday January 13  1:30 P.M.  - United Methodist  Church in Montevideo with Rev. Robert Ford officiating.  Burial in the Milan Methodist Cemetery.
