Arthur Martin Wersal

Arthur Wersal, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, January 29, 2000 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 86.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at 10:30 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Warren Broughton and Rev. Lois Knutson officiating.  Burial was in the Union Cemetery in Elbow Lake, MN. .

Arthur Martin Wersal was born on December 2, 1913 in Stately Township in Brown Co., MN to Wenzel and Minnie (Tordson) Wersal.  He was baptized on Dec. 26, 1913 and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield and attended rural schools.  He worked for several farmers in the Springfield and Jeffers area before entering the US Army in April of 1941.  He served in the Army until November of 1945 including over 20 months in Europe.  Following his discharge he moved to Montevideo and began working for Clarence Burns in the fur business and managing his ballroom.  In 1960 he opened the Dairy Freeze Rapid Serve in Montevideo and operated it until the mid 1980's.  He has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo for the past 7 years.  He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, VFW Post #380 of Montevideo and several local sporting organizations.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed trips up north and into Canada and enjoyed playing Bingo.  He enjoyed working with young people and helped many with part-time employment at his Dairy Freeze.

He is survived by brothers - Melvin Wersal and his wife Dorothy of Aitken, MN and Marvin Wersal of Chisholm, MN; a sister - Elvira Batzlaff of Fergus Falls, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother - Henry; by a brother-in-law - Walter Batzlaff and by a sister-in-law -  Carol Wersal.
