Audrey Hovland, of Alexandria and formerly of Montevideo, died on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Bethany Community Nursing Home in Alexandria, MN at the age of 76.
Memorial Services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Tim Ehling officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Audrey Marilyn (Halvorson) Hovland was born on October 28, 1937 in Montevideo, MN to Melvin C. and Hazel (Anderson) Halvorson. She was baptized and confirmed at Camp Release Lutheran Church in Stony Run Township and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1955. She attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. She taught school in Osseo, MN for several years. On September 30, 1967 she was united in marriage to Darrell Hovland in Minneapolis. They lived and farmed near Minneota, MN for a number of years before moving to Redwood Falls, where she worked at a Nursing Home. After a short while, they moved to Benson, where she subbed in Sunburg, MN and taught GED classes until retiring in 2001. While in Benson she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and taught First Communion preparation. In 2003 they moved to Montevideo, where they lived until moving to Alexandria, MN in 2010. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo and was a member of the National and Minnesota Education Associations. She enjoyed reading, crafts and needlework, doing crossword puzzles, being around children, and especially enjoyed being with her granddaughter.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell of Alexandria; a son, Jason Hovland and his wife Kim of Alexandria; a granddaughter, Bailee of Alexandria; a brother Gary Halvorson and his wife Donna of Wegdahl, MN; a sister-in-law, Marsha Halvorson of New Ulm, MN, as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin C. and Hazel Halvorson; a brother, Robert Halvorson and by a niece, Cindy Halvorson.
