Avis Peterson, of Watson, died on Saturday, June 27 at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 77.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 2, 2105 at 1:00 PM at Watson Lutheran Church in Watson, MN with Vicar Linda Estling officiating. Visitation will held on Wednesday July 1, 2015 from 5 to 7 PM at Anderson -TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo, MN. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Avis Yvonne (Ludvigson) Peterson was born on August 24, 1937 to Harris and Mrytle (Sjolie) Ludvigson in Haydenville, MN. When Avis was 5 years old her mother became ill and Avis and her sisters went to live with aunts and uncles. Avis went to live with Harry and Belle McCarthy in Minneapolis. She attended and graduated from North High in Minneapolis. On January 12, 1957 Avis married Curtis Peterson at Lac Qui Parle Church. They made their home in Lac Qui Parle Village, then Clarkfield and finally to Watson, MN in 1967. Avis and Curtis had four children together. Being a mom was her first job but she also worked at various places in the Watson and Montevideo area including Swift Dairy, Norris Zaiser Dairy, Carlson Doll Factory and Country Inn and Suites.
Avis enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and flowers. Family remembers her “special” mending of her son-in-law’s pants with ric rack. She loved geraniums, moss roses, finches (also known to Avis as “nephews” according to her granddaughter) and hummingbirds. Avis was a member of the Watson Quilting Queens and the Montevideo VFW Auxiliary. She valued spending time with “her girls” and all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed Sunday afternoon rides with Curtis and the Game Show network. When family members would leave the house she would always say to them “I’ll be here.”
Avis is survived by her husband, Curtis; her daughters: Julie (Keith) Dalen of Milan and Jana (Dave) Joslin of Watson; grandchildren: Kyle Dalen of Maynard, MN, Ashlie (James) Clobes of Gibbon, MN and Greta (Ross) Swenson of Clara City, MN; great-grandchildren: Ryan and Layna Dalen, Tristan, Preston and Jacob Clobes, and Reilly and Piper Swenson; sisters: Audrey Mullen of Brooklyn Center, MN, Lois Dickison of Blaine, MN, Arla Mae (Herbert) Petersen of Milbank, SD and Amy (Donnie) Beutler of Canby, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Harris and Mrytle; a daughter, Becky in infancy; a son, Jerry in 1992; her aunt and uncle, Harry and Belle McCarthy: a sister, Marilyn in infancy; her mother and father-in-law: Cliff and Ellen Peterson; and numerous other relatives and friends.
