Avis Evenson, of Stanton, MN, formerly of Dawson, died on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, September 27, from 4-7 PM at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield, MN at 201 East 4th Street. 507-645-5123 www.bensonfuneral.com Memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 28 , at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements in Dawson. Avis L. Evenson was born December 1, 1929, on the family farm in Cerro Gordo Township, Lac Qui Parle County, MN, to Hans C. and Hannah (Strand) Neraasen. She was baptized at Riverise Lutheran Church in Dawson and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. She attended District #26 Country School and graduated from Dawson High School in 1947. After her education, she worked as a housekeeper and at the Dawson Hospital. She married Marvin C. Evenson on October 15, 1950, at Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson. After their marriage, they lived in Boyd until Marvin was drafted. While he was serving, Avis lived with him for a short time in Georgia and Texas, but most of the time lived with her parents in Dawson. Following his honorable discharge in 1953, they started farming, first in Lac Qui Parle Township and later in Riverside Township. In 1963, they moved to St. Paul for a year and in 1964, to Northfield and shortly after to Randolph. In 1969, they moved to their home in Stanton. Avis worked for a time at Carleton College, and worked for Laura Baker Services in Northfield for 21 years, retiring in 1991. Avis enjoyed playing cards, fishing, going to the lake, and camping. Her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were most important in her life and she cared dearly for all of her extended family. She was a very loyal and a beautiful lady, inside and out. Avis passed away with her husband and family by her side on Wednesday afternoon, September 22, 2010, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, at the age of 80. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Marvin of Stanton; two sons: Roger Evenson of Stanton and Randy Evenson and companion Robyn Prinzing of Dennison; 3 grandchildren: Brock (Therese) of Silver Bay, Briana Evenson (Denver Jacobson) of Rosemount and Chase Evenson of Dennison; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Swanhild Vannatter, of Waterford, MI, Elnore Bergeson of Dawson and Rosalind 'Rosie' Varpness of Echo; two sisters-in-law: Eileen Sather of Madison and Alitrice Neraasen of Dawson; special friend, Vicki Evenson of Hampton; one uncle, August Neraasen in Gjovik, Norway; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Ronald; two brothers: Harold and Harlan Neraasen; one sister, Glenice Neraasen; three brothers-in-law: Donald Vannatter, Norval Bergeson and Harley Varpness; nephew, Gary Vannatter; niece, Janice (Varpness) Morehouse; and several aunts and uncles.
