Barbara Larson, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Homefront in Montevideo at the age of 73. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Charlie Leonard officiating. Interment will be in the Strombeck Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Barbara Theresa (Christensen) Larson was born on December 20, 1934 in Clarkfield, MN to Oren and Minnie (Haaland) Christensen. She was baptized and confirmed at Spring Creek Lutheran Church of rural Clarkfield. She attended school in District 105 and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1952. In 1955 she received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Minnesota. In 1956 she was united in marriage to Roger J. Larson in Clarkfield. She was employed as a County Home Agent with the Minnesota Extension Service in Lincoln, Big Stone and Lac qui Parle Counties prior to the birth of their children - Ronald in 1958 and Mari in 1964. In addition to cooking, sewing and raising their children, she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. She was a charter member of the Fiesta Flora Society garden club and has been a Master Gardener since 1982. She was a Certified Horticulture Judge and a member of the North Star Lily Society. In 1989 she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Minnesota State Horticultural Society. A long-time member of Salem Lutheran Church, she was financial secretary for thirty years, church council secretary, taught Sunday School, was a mentor and quilt maker. She served of the Luther Haven Board, Habitat for Humanity Board, the Sparta Township Advisory Committee and volunteered at the Chippewa County Food Shelf. She is survived by a son, Dr. Ronald Larson of Kalamazoo, MI; a daughter, Rev. Dr. Mari Larson and her husband, Gary Werbowski of Cottonwood, AZ and step-grandchildren: Brad, Mark, Sarah and Scott Werbowski. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents and by her husband, Roger in 2002.
