Belva North, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 91. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Tim Ehling officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5:30 to 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Belva Christina (Dahl) North was born on August 17, 1915 in Granite Falls, MN to Ole A. and Hilda (Johnson) Dahl. She attended rural school in District 26 and graduated from Granite Falls High School. She worked as a clerk in several Granite Falls stores and during World War II worked for Physicians and Hospital Supply Company in Minneapolis. In 1947 she returned to Granite Falls and was united in marriage to Clarence R. North. They moved to Montevideo in 1956 where she has continued to live. Belva had many interests to which she devoted her time as a volunteer. She was active as a Cub Scout Den Mother, election judge, census taker, and co-chair of the High School Band Carnival. She helped organize many Boy Scout Bean Feeds and attended training at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school, was active in the Esther Circle of TLCW and helped promote the first Advent Teas. She also served on the Altar Guild for many years. In addition, her interests at home included baking bread and pastries throughout the year and lefse at Christmas time. She also enjoyed cross-stitching, knitting and the freezing and canning of vegetables from the family garden. As a bird-lover, she enjoyed raising sunflowers and feeding the seeds to her favorite birds, the cardinals.
She is survived by two sons: Ronald North of Moorestown, NJ and Alan (and Mary) North of White Bear Lake, MN; two grandchildren: Ryan and Amy North of White Bear Lake, MN; a brother, Harold Dahl of Granite Falls, MN; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence in 1991; two brothers: Lynn Dahl and O.H. Dahl; and one sister, Tillie Hokuf.
