Bernice Larson, of Montevideo and formerly of Glencoe, died on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 80.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, December 22, 2003 at 1:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo with Rev. Jean Boese officiating. Interment was in the Appleton Cemetery.
Bernice Nora (Mitling) Larson was born on October 8, 1923 in Montevideo, MN to Bennie and Nettie (Christenson) Mitling. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Montevideo Public Schools. On April 6, 1943 she was united in marriage to Vernon E. Larson in Montevideo. They made their home in Montevideo for many years before moving to Glencoe, MN in 1994. She moved back to Montevideo in October of 2003, and has been a resident at the Luther Haven Nursing Home since. She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, sewing, baking, canning, and was proud of her Norwegian heritage. Her family was always a very important part of her life. Bernice worked at Luther Haven Nursing Home as a nursing assistant for many years and was known as an ambitious and hard working woman.
She is survived by five children: Kathryn Larson of Tulsa, OK, Kristin Clausen of Shakopee, MN, Brian Larson of Montevideo, Pamela Beck and her husband Robert of Glencoe, MN, and Mark Larson of Eden Prairie, MN; six grandchildren: DayLynn McDonald and her husband Kevin, Angela Harris and her husband Mark, Alicia Willsey and her husband Ryan, and Danielle, Courtney and Kyle Beck; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Mitling and his wife Marlys of Circle Pines, MN; seven sisters: Adeline Nielsen of Holloway, MN, Clarice Smolley and her husband Donald of Montevideo, Natsy Roudebush of Savage, MN, Irene Beadle of Richfield, MN, Carol Buschmann and her husband Max of Montevideo, Beverly Home of Montevideo, and Janis Manska and her husband Philip of Benson, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon in October of 2003; three sons: Bruce, Vernon Lee and Gary Larson; and one brother, Johnnie Mitling
