Bertha Spray, of Milan, died on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 93. Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Kirck Meseck and Rev. Eugene Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Big Bend Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and a prayer service at 6:30 P.M., all at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Bertha Grace Spray was born on January 5, 1918 at Maynard, Minnesota to Louis and Belle (Hagemeyer) Beckman. She was baptized on February 18, 1918 by Pastor Henry Haferman and confirmed on March 27, 1932 by Pastor P.J. Kumph, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. She graduated from Maynard High School in 1934. On November 28, 1935 she, was united in marriage to Edward Eugene Spray in Maynard, MN. Bertha and Ed farmed in Havelock and Leenthrop townships until 1941 when they moved to Big Bend township to a farm east of Milan, MN. Bertha moved to Park Ave. Apartments in Madison in October of 2009. She later moved to Hilltop Apts. Assisted Living for a short time before moving to Luther Haven in Montevideo. Bertha worked for many years as a nurses aid at the Montevideo Hospital and always enjoyed helping other people. She was happy when she was in her garden and was especially known for her strawberry patch. She enjoyed the sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Her church, Big Bend Lutheran was very important to her and she was active in Ladies Aid, Circles and taught Sunday School. She was a member of Homemakers Club and Caregivers in Milan. She is survived by children: Eileen (Paul) Trelstad of Madison, MN, Doug Spray and Paul (and Patee),Spray, all of Milan, MN; a son-in-law, Glen Hilden of Milan, MN; a daughter-in-law, Lorrie Spray of Milan, MN; twelve grandchildren: Randy (Sonya) Trelstad, Karmin (Robert) Goerger, Karla Trelstad, Karen (Orrin) Freeman, Terry Hilden, Mandy Spray, Nathan (Heidi) Spray, Eric (Hillary) Spray, Kyle (Kelly) Spray, Adam (Anna) Spray, Andrea Leibl, Anisa Spray; seventeen great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Carolyn Caspers of Bemidji, MN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed in 1998; a daughter, Barbara Hilden; a son, Dale Spray; a grandson, Gary Hilden; a brother, George Beckman and a sister, Grace Preuss.
