Bertha Strobeen, of Montevideo, died on Friday, May 7, 2004 at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital at the age of 96.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 13, 2004 at 1:30 PM at Saron Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo with Rev. Charlie Bunk officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening, with the family from 6 - 8 PM and with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Bertha Miranda (Thompson) Strobeen was born on November 20, 1907 in Maynard, MN to Nils and Gurina (Anderson) Thompson. She was baptized and confirmed at Wang Lutheran Church and attended rural schools. She later attended Normal Training in Madison, MN. On June 10, 1933 she was united in marriage to Edward Strobeen at her family farm near Maynard. They farmed east of Montevideo until 1950 when they moved into Montevideo. Bertha also taught rural schools for a number of years and operated the Sundae Shop on main street in Montevideo for a few years. She was a long time member of Saron Lutheran Church and was active in its ladies groups. She was active in community groups including the Sr. Citizens and the Chippewa County Historical Society. Bertha enjoyed crocheting, quilt making, camping, fishing, playing cards and going to dances.
She is survived by two daughters: Margaret Kruger and her husband Dean of Dawson, MN and Virginia Hall of Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Thea Dahlager and Marie Thompson, both of Granite Falls, MN; a special friend, Ernest Zuehlke of Montevideo; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward in 1975; and by ten brothers and sisters.
