Bertina Johanna (Anderson) Gustafson

Montevideo

Bertina Gustafson, formerly of Montevideo, died on Monday, May 20, 2002 at the Westwood Elderly Care Center in Granite Falls, MN at the age of 92.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 24, 2002 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Thomas Hanson officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Bertina Johanna (Anderson) Gustafson was born on June 22, 1909 in Chippewa County, MN to Andrew and Carrie (Ellingson) Anderson.  She was baptized and confirmed as a Lutheran in Chippewa County and attended rural schools. On April 8, 1928 she was united in marriage to Ralph Olson.  Following his death in 1936, she was united in marriage to Swen Gustafson on September 3, 1939 in Milbank, SD.  They lived and farmed in Rosewood Township until moving into Montevideo in 1949.  They continued to farm until Swen’s death in 1960 and she continued involvement with the farm into the 1990's.  She moved into the Homestead Care Center in Granite Falls in 1996 and was currently a resident of the Westwood Elderly Care Center.  She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo and was active in its circles.  She was a member of the Sons of Norway, active in the Senior Citizens and was active in 4-H as her children grew up.  She enjoyed her grandchildren, fishing, bingo, card games and travel.

She is survived by two sons: Roland Olson and his wife Virginia of Alexandria, MN and Roger Gustafson and his wife Kay of Montevideo; two daughters: Liz Peltola of Mankato, MN and Vange Harried and her husband Glen of Edina, MN; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alma Swenson of Montevideo; several step brothers and step sisters; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and three brothers: Oscar, Andy and George Anderson.
