Betty Jo Sabin (Paul) was born on August 27, 1953, in Marshall, MN, to Woodrow and Edith Paul (Garrow). She was the youngest of six children, with four sisters and one brother: Phyllis, Joan, Katherine (Kathy), Barbara, and David. Betty grew up in Marshall and attended East Side Elementary School. She went on to attend Marshall Senior High School, where her favorite class was home economics, which was fitting considering the person Betty was. Betty graduated from high school on June 4, 1971. As a child, she enjoyed playing games such as kick the can, pom-pom pull away, hide and seek, and cards.
Betty met her husband, Neal Harlan Sabin, on October 16, 1969, in Canby, MN, where Betty’s cousin Arla introduced them. Betty and Neal got married on June 19, 1971, at the Assembly of God in Marshall. They had two beautiful daughters, Stephanie Edith and Bridget Janae. Betty was a great mother and wife; her girls and husband meant the world to her.
Betty worked many jobs after high school, but her favorite job was being a grandma, or Grammy, as she was affectionately called by her grandkids. Betty became a grandma when she was 35 years old and excelled at loving, comforting, and supporting her grandchildren. She was so proud of them and loved each of them with every fiber of her being.
Betty was a lover of nature, animals (especially cats), coffee at Java River, which held a special place in her heart, chocolate, Oreos dipped in milk, and being with her favorite people—her family.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Neal; two daughters, Stephanie (Shaun) and Bridget; her precious grandchildren, Jordan (Cassandra), Ashlynn, Jakob (Taylor), Taylor (Isaac), and Chase (Jenna); five great-grandchildren, Ella, Ryder, Waylon, Hadley, and Henry; siblings, Kathy Coudron, Joan Des Lauriers, and David Paul; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Betty also leaves behind a cat, Pac, who was very near and dear to her heart.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Woody and Edith Paul; her sisters, Phyllis (Jerry) Lorentson and Barbara (Bill) Dirckx; brothers-in-law, Donald Coudron, Ralph Des Lauriers; a sister-in-law, Rita Paul; nephews, Curt Des Lauriers, Rick Garman, and Martin Coudron; a niece, Terri Morton; great-nephews, Alonso Limones, Jesse Javens, Hunter Javens; her cat, Bucky, who she had for 23 years; and many extended family members.
