Beverly Berven, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday October 27, 2009 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 78. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Tim Ehling officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Beverly Alice (Hanson) Berven was born on January 9, 1931 in Montevideo, MN to Alfred and Lillian (Strommer) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1948. On October 8, 1950 she was united in marriage to Robert Manthei at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. They lived in Montevideo, Amiret and Cannon Falls, MN for short times before returning to live in Montevideo in 1963. She began working at B.J. Oyen's Law Office in 1947 and spent over 60 years working in law offices, most notably at Nelson, Oyen & Torvik. Following Robert's death in 1982, she was united in marriage to James Berven on July 21, 1984 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran and was active as a Sunday School teacher, circle member, served on the church board, participated in the Bethel Bible Series and was active in the Advent Tea. She was a Hospice volunteer, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, enjoyed golfing as a member of the Montevideo Country Club and wintering in Arizona. She always put the interests of others before her own and enjoyed times with family and friends, especially at holiday time. She is survived by her husband, James of Montevideo; children: Joel (and Deborah) Manthei of Monticello, MN: Jayne (and Mike) Krivinchuk of Superior WI; Jeffrey (and Sherry) Manthei of Montevideo, MN, a step-son Robert (and Diane) Berven of Milan, MN; and a foreign exchange son, Michael Hompus of the Netherlands; a sister, Marian Westbrook of Forest Lake, MN and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert Manthei in 1982 and a sister, Gloria Good.
